Coastal Zone

The coastal zone in Galway City contains a wide range of coastal habitats including saltmarsh, shingle and sand banks, sandy and muddy shores.

Galway Bay is thought to be one of the best ornithological areas in the western region. It supports a huge diversity of wintering wetland birds with divers, grebes, cormorants, ducks, swans, geese and waders all represented.
